LOCATION: Northshore Christian Academy’s beautiful 33 acre campus and 162,000 sq. ft. educational facility is conveniently located off of major highways, nestled in a quiet neighborhood community, close to the Everett Boeing plant with a majestic view of Puget Sound.
DEMOGRAPHICS: Northshore Christian Academy includes families from as far north as Arlington/Stanwood and as far south as the Seattle area. Our students represent over 125 different churches. We also admit students from families who have no church affiliation.
HISTORY: Northshore Christian Academy began in 1995 in a warehouse. The Northshore campus consists of four buildings that serve Northshore Christian Church as well as over 1,000 Northshore Christian Academy and Early Learning Center’s students (Toddlers, Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade). Our Early Learning Center offers full and part-time Toddler, Preschool and Pre Kindergarten classes. Please refer to the NCA, Early Learning Center materials. We also offer enrichment classes through Northshore School of Arts and Enrichment (NSAE) after school and during the summer. NSAE offerings include Chess, Computers, Science, Art, Music, Sports, to name a few! Our Summer Program serves students throughout the summer for 1st–7th grade.
AFFILIATIONS: We are approved by the Superintendent of the State of Washington. We are accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NASC). We are a member of the Washington Federation of Independent Schools.
FACULTY: All Kindergarten through 8th grade classroom teachers are State and ACSI certified. Many have, or are working toward, advanced degrees. Certified specialists teach technology, engineering, music, fine arts, physical education, and foreign language classes.
EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY: NCA incorporates all learning and curriculum through a Biblical world-view that recognizes Jesus Christ as Creator and Lord. NCA endeavors to train students spiritually, academically, and personally. Northshore integrates faith and learning as we educate the whole child to impact a changing world to the glory of God. Part of this program is daily Bible classes at all grade levels as well as a weekly Chapel.
TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE: We place emphasis on the STEM disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Our students benefit from state-of-the-art instruction and practice. Students also have access to two computer labs, mobile Chromebook labs, classroom computers, IPads, etc. K-2 audio systems, digital projectors, Apple televisions and interactive white boards in every classroom and library computers. Our 5th grade students are issued a Chromebook. Middle School Students have a device. NCA’s STEM program is developed according to a technology plan outlining sequential development for the next five years. Our primary goals are to teach basic computer use, keyboarding, programming, video production, web page design and basic video game design to students. Students are also taught to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, Web Design, Photoshop, Game Design and PowerPoint. Medical Forensics is offered to Middle School. We have three Middle School Robotics Teams and an Engineering Club. Junior Robotics teams are available for elementary students. Kindergarten-5th Grade students have 40 minutes of Engineering class in our dedicated Engineering classroom (refer to our web site for more information). We aspire to develop our student to be digital discerners who will innovate and design technology rather than merely consume technology. Science education combines inquiry based instruction and mastery of key science concepts. Students learn best with hands on science experiments. Up-to-date curriculum and equipment is incorporated into each science lesson. Resources include a state of the art science lab, Pasco science instruments, lab equipment and a science resource manager.
LITERACY: Literacy is a high priority of instruction at NCA with 90 minutes devoted to literacy each day. Literacy includes reading, writing, grammar, spelling, handwriting and communication skills. Reading instruction takes a balanced approach using strong phonics, word attack skills, comprehension strategies, differentiated learning and small group instruction. Spelling, grammar, handwriting and writing are strong components of our program. Writing, grammar and spelling begins in Kindergarten and expands at each grade. Cursive, computer keyboarding and in-depth writing skills are accelerated in 3rd grade. Comprehending complex texts, concepts and reading
documents are mastered by 8th grade. With the strong reading and writing skills, our graduates successfully tackle advanced high school classes with huge success.
LIBRARY: Fiction and non-fiction books, software and equipment continue to be added to our current library containing over 25,000 volumes.
FINE ARTS AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES: Foreign languages are a vital part of a quality education. Spanish is required for all KF-5th grade students twice a week and is a Middle School elective class. Music education is a priority throughout our school program. Brain research confirms the importance of music education for brain development throughout the educational process. We are committed to music education including music theory, famous composure units, and worship leadership performances. 5th–8th graders have 11 different band, orchestra and choir performance groups to choose from during their Fine Arts elective classes. Kindergarten through fourth graders experience two weekly general music classes and annual stage performances. Drama classes begin in 6th grade. K-8th grade Art education incorporates regular instruction in Art theory, Art history and Art expression. A successful curriculum ‘Meet the Masters’ is the foundation of our art program.
ACADEMIC TESTING: Three times a year students participate in the MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) test, which compares their overall progress with national averages. Our most recent results show that our students have scored approximately two years above the national averages on the exam.
SCHEDULE Half Day Pre-Kindergarten: AM is 8:35–11:35am and PM is 12:35-3:35pm, Monday-Thursday Kindergarten: Half Day is 8:30–11:45am and Full Day is 8:30am–3:10pm 1st–5th Grade: 8:30am–3:15pm Middle School (6th, 7th & 8th grade): 8:30am–3:25pm
We offer before and after school care for school age children. We open at 6:30am and close at 6:00pm. We also provide child care on half-days and non-school days. Our licensed Early Learning Center opens at 6:30am and provides services until 6pm serving 1 year olds through Pre-Kindergarten. UNIFORMS: All students in Kindergarten through 8th grade wear uniforms. Please refer to our uniform information on the web site.
PARENT TEACHER FELLOWSHIP: Our PTF is very involved and provides many venues to participate from Popcorn Fridays, Room Parents, classroom volunteers, prayer, family support, including Korean, Spanish Speaking and Grandparent groups.
